SHEBOYGAN — Milwaukee PC has closed their Downtown Sheboygan store for good.

After 23 years, the store located at 516 North 8th Street, has permanently closed. The store opened in 1998 and has remained a part of the downtown landscape ever since.

It is unclear why or when the store closed. Jim Petr, owner of Milwaukee PC, could not be reached for comment for this story. Petr owns the building that his store was formerly located in as well as the Oakland Center, a strip mall on Sheboygan’s south side.

Milwaukee PC has 15 locations that remain open as of September 13th including their Mequon and Fond du Lac stores which are within one hour of Sheboygan.

The company was founded by Petr in 1988 while he was an instructor at Marquette University. Petr found that he could save the private Jesuit university money by building computers himself rather than purchasing them through an outside vendor. Ten years later in 1998, Milwaukee PC had 14 locations including the Downtown Sheboygan store.

In 2019, local internet provider and computer store Excel.Net closed after being sold to Michigan-based Mercury Network which has an office in Manitowoc. The owner and founder, Larry Weidig, did not provide a reason for the sale. He started the company in 1994. The former Excel.Net office building on Indiana Avenue is listed for sale.
